| According to the column Reminicences in Volume XVI, Number 1, March
1991 of Warren County Reflections, published by the Warren County
Historical Society, Williamsport, Indiana: "The first hotel built in Williamsport was built by Stephen Schoonover. It was three stories high and frame with a little bellhouse on the roof; the bell was rung morning and night to announce to the citizens and patrons that the meal was ready. Mr. Schoonover was the landlord and was very popular with a large patronage. The building stood on Main St. about the middle of the block between Market and Third Streets. Connected with a part of the house was 'Social Hall' where the people of the town from far and near resorted in times of festivity and social gatherings." |
